Post Oy…the offseason

Tuesday July 1, 2008

I’ll let the story speak for itself

Georgia football player Michael Lemon is a suspect in an alcohol-related battery incident Saturday night that sent a University student to the hospital with a severe eye injury, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

Read the whole thing. It’s not a favorable account.

It gets better…Trinton Sturdivant and Justin Anderson were apparently booked on “simple battery” charges. (hat tip to Steve Patterson of UGASports.com) It’s unknown at this time whether those arrests were related to Lemon’s incident. Way too early to make heads or tails of this story yet, but for those of you keeping score at home that’s over half of Georgia’s projected starting offensive line (when you include Boling) that has been arrested over the offseason.

UPDATE: It seems as if the incidents are not related. More information on the Sturdivant / Anderson incident is available from ESPN. Still doesn’t look good for Lemon, but I wouldn’t be surprised if charges are ultimately dropped against the two offensive linemen.

  • I certainly want our O-Line to have a nasty streak…I just want them to keep it between the lines.

  • If the charges are too and have not been embellished, I hope Richt kicks him off the team. Any “friends” that were involved and did not try to stop him should also be booted off. This isn’t boys being boys, drinking under age stuff. This is Tennessee thuggery. I’d rather my dawgs lose every game than have players like this on the team.

  • “true” not “too”

  • update: per ESPN, the 2 incidents are not related.

And it seems Bean & Trinton are being accused of touching a pregnant woman’s belly outside of a dorm. That’s simple battery?

Annoying and inappropriate yes, but simple battery?

  • And, if Michael did what the reports and 5 witnesses say he did, then I hope his sorry ass is kicked off the team. Period.

That student also suffered a concussion and could lose vision. More importantly, had someone not pulled him off the student he was beating, he could’ve killed him.

Enough. This kind of crap is too much & cannot be tolerated.

  • I’m relieved that Sturdivant and Anderson were not involved in the alleged Lemon beating. It sounds like, if anything, they were just guilty of being rude. I still wonder about the identities of Lemon’s friends that huddled around him and watched him (allegedly) beat the snot out of someone.

  • ditto. I find it interesting that they decided to intervene only after Michael (allegedly) beat him 5 or 6 times. Some friends.
